Chapter two-part two
Second part up. ^^

Chapter two part two

Jake had resumed training after resting for a moment.

Ally’s late. He thought. I wonder what happened. It’s unlike Ally to be late. So far, she had been really prompt. I hope nothing bad happened to her, he added worriedly. I will never forgive myself if she get hurt or something. Jake stopped and look around wistfully. Perhaps I should look for her…

“Jake!” Ally shouted jovially as she ran out of the bushes behind him.

“Your high…” His words were cut short as Ally jumped on him, knocking him flat on the ground, and causing his sword to fly to the bushes.

“I’m so sorry! You must be angry at me for making you wait for so long!” Ally said as she made a face. “Please forgive me, I had such a busy day, and Lasana took a dreadfully long time to dress me up. You know how she is like; she needs to fit and refit the dress until she is satisfied. After that, she started on my hair.”

Ally rolled her eyes. “Don’t get me started on it.”

“Oh yeah,” Ally continued with more enthusiasm. “Did I mention to you that, I am learning a new song tomorrow? Singing Tutor said that she feels that I am good enough to learn a new song. That’s good isn’t it? Tutor Sherennda said that I would be learning telekinesis the next lesson…”

“Whoa. I can’t catch up with you your highness.” Jake said stopping her.

Ally made a face. “I can’t believe you are still calling me ‘your highness’. After being so many friends with me, you know you can call me by me nickname, Ally.”

“Yes, your highness.” Jake said, smiling.

Ally sighed. It was then she realized that she was sitting on him.

She blushed furiously. “Sorry, I must be heavy.” She said, laughing slightly.

Just has she was about to jump off him, Jake grabbed her wrists.

Ally looked at him in surprise.

Looking deeply into her eyes, Jake asked solemnly. “Now, tell me, what exactly happened?”

Ally laughed nervously. “Ha-ha, what are you talking about? I am completely fine!”

Jake shook his head. “As you said, after being friends with you for so many years. I can sense that something is amiss, no matter how cheerful you are acting.”

Ally tried to struggle out of his grasp. “Nothing, really.” She said as she smiled as brightly as she could at him. Why is it that he always knows such things? It’s so annoying.

Jake just continued to look at her solemnly with his clear green eyes. Ally tried to look away. “I…I am fine. Nothing happened. Wh…what are you talking about?”

Jake forced her to look at him into his eyes. “Stop lying to me. Just tell me what happened.”

“It’s nothing… really. I’m completely…” She trailed off as her will melted way.

Looking away, she crossed her arms and said coldly, “I saw the Queen.”

Jake blinked in surprise and dropped her wrist. Running his fingers through his hair, he said cheerfully. “Tsh. So that was what it was all about.”

“What do you mean. That was all it was about/” Ally bursted out angrily.

“Well, you were sulking and acting all strange. I thought something bad happened.”

Ally glared at him.

Jake raised his hands. “Am I wrong?”

“But then,” He continued quickly. “isn’t it good for you to be able to see her? You seldom ever see your parents.”

Ally looked away. “I suppose so, but it still make me mad somehow, I can’t explain it. And besides, she hardly even spoke to me. She was off to one of her meetings again the next second. She is always so busy, she doesn’t even have time to talk to me.”

“But that’s not something to sulk about is it?”

“I’m not sulking!”

“Calm down. I was only teasing. There’s no need to get so angry about.”

“I am NOT angry!”

“Yeah. Sure.”

Ally glared at him again.

“What a friend you are. And I was looking forward to meeting you too.” Ally said hotly as she got up and walked away.

“Hey! I was only teasing. You shouldn’t be so tense.” Jake protested as he got up.

Ally didn’t even look back.

“OK. I apologize.” Jake said quickly. “Please forgive me.”

Ally turned around. “Be glad I am the forgiving kind,” she muttered.

Jake grinned.

Ally glanced at him. “How did you know that something happened to me anyway?”

Jake smiled. “You may be able to read people’s mind, but I can read people’s hearts.”

Ally blinked. “You can read people’s hearts?” Frowning, she asked. “What does that mean?”

Jake sighed and ruffled her hair. “Nothing.”

She raised an eyebrow but didn’t ask anymore questions.

“So, how was your day?”

Ally picked up a daisy and absent-mindedly started to pluck its petals.

“I told you already didn’t I? It was pretty much the same, the same old boring things. Except that I am learning a new song.”

Jake picked up his sword and glanced at her. “You always speak of your life I n the palace as ‘awful’, ‘boring’ and ‘bad’. But doubt it’s as hard as warrior training. You know how hard they train us.”

“I know, I know.” Ally said as she made a face. “But you enjoy doing all those. You have fun, but I don’t! I don’t like to learn dinner etiquettes, sewing, how to receive a guest and how to dance a thousand stupid dances!”

Jake smiled wryly. “One will think that you will get used to it after 14 years.”

Ally took a deep breathe and calmed down before shrugging. “I don’t know. I just don’t like doing all these things. It’s boring and I am not interested in them. Like with Tutor Hennea, she is still nagging me about my smile. I know I’ve gotten my posture correct and my steps are perfect too, but she still nag me on my smile.”

Sighing, Ally said. “How I wish there was an adventure. You know something un-princessy, instead of staying here with all these worshipping freaks.”

“Whoa. Calm down Princess. There’s not need to get so agitated about.”

In the distance, thunder rumbled…

Jake looked up and said worriedly, “We’d better go before it starts to rain. Nobody will thank me if you got drenched.”

Ally nodded. It’s strange, thought Ally as she looked up at the sky. No storms come so fast and without warning.

Jake rushed her along as she stood up. “Go quickly; you do not want to be caught in the rain.” Ally nodded absentmindedly as she followed him.

*******
Rain pelted down hard on the bedraggled couple as they struggled against the strong wind to reach the palace.

“Where are we?” shouted Ally.

“What did you say?” Jake half asked, half shouted.

“Where by the elementals are we!” Ally shouted louder.

Jake stopped and looked around. “I… I’m not sure where we are actually.”

Ally sat down heavily, not caring that her dress was wet anymore.

“You… you mean we are lost?” she asked incredulously as Jake joined her on the ground. “We are still in the palace grounds right? How can we get lost?”

He glanced nervously at Ally. “I am not sure, but I don’t recognize the place anymore.”

Trying to stay calm, she stood up and started, “Let’s go somewhere…”

But she never finished her sentence.

Lighting flashed and thunder roared. A white bolt of lightning struck the tree directly behind them. The tree burst into red-hot flames.

Both of them jumped and spun around.

“What… is… that?”

Both of them were awestruck.

In front of them was a white portal. Bright mists were swirling around the portal. It was nothing they have ever seen before.

Jake gaped at the portal open-mouthed. What is this?

Ally stepped forward.

“Er Ally?” Jake said softly a she glanced at her. “It might not be wise for us to stand so close to the portal.”

Ally took another step.

He was confused now. “Ally? Ally!”

She took another step again. The portal was only an inch away from her.

“Ally! Come back!” Jake shouted nervously .

It was too late when he saw her transfixed face. She was in a trance. Jake gasped and dashed forward to grab her. But it was too late, the portal engulfed her.

“Ally!” He screamed. Without hesitating, he dived in after her.

Meanwhile, in a place somewhere, a girl was watching the night sky.

Dark clouds are gathering on the Forbidden Meadows, She thought grimly. Must be an omen. But is it good or bad?

She came off the balcony where she was standing. I had better tell my father.

Opening the door, she walked briskly towards her father’s room.

*******

Sir Graffus was lying in his bed doing some of the accounts, when someone knocked on the door.

Who could it be at such a late hour? He wondered. Pushing his spectacles up his nose, he called, “Come in.”

To his surprise, it was his daughter, Fiona.

Sitting up, he said tenderly, “What is it, my Fiona? Is anything the matter?”

Fiona just smiled wanly and chided softly, “Father, you are doing accounts again. You should rest more, especially with your ailing health.”

Sir Graffus smiled tiredly, “Do not worry about me, dear.”

“What is it that you want to tell me?” He probed gently.

Her eyes lighting up immediately, she half whispered, “I think the prophesied one is coming.”

He looked at his daughter and said rather sharply. “Do not give false hope, my daughter. You know that this is an incurable illness. Besides, the prophecy is not true.”

“How can you prove that father? Moreover, it describes the current situation correctly. I am positive she is coming, the angel from the sky.”

Sir Graffus sighed. Soon after his wasting illness has been discovered, his daughter had changed from a bright, cheerful child to a quiet and mature girl. Perhaps she remembers her mother, he thought sadly. Not only that, she had searched everywhere for a cure to his illness. But it had proved fruitless, until she chanced upon a scroll in an old and ancient abandoned temple.

It wasn’t that he did not want to believe that it was a cure for his illness, but they didn’t even know if it referred to him! It was too risky… he did not want to have his hopes dashed.

“I’m sorry, Fiona, but I will not tolerate any nonsense. Please go back.” He said rather shakily.

His daughter stared at him. Finally, she turned around and went out without a word.

*********
“I will go there tomorrow. I will hold on to hope.” She said through gritted teeth. “I will not lose him, not after mother…”
